You are here.
There is peace and calm and joy here.
After this week of losses –
A young vibrant woman who succumbed to cancer,
A beloved family dog,
A parish volunteer who suffered a stroke,
The United Sates –
And all the distress I feel,
You are here.
The distress begins to dissipate.
Though not directly related, a reflection by Silas S. Henderson of the Society of the Divine Savior in Give Us This Day brought comfort. He was commenting on the coming of the Reign of God as “a time for us to recall that the hoped-for Reign of God is already at work in the world and within us.” He continues, “The Reign of God is realized, even now, in the quiet moments of our lives, our acts of prayerful devotion, our pursuit of justice, and our persevering commitment to a life of discipleship.”
Full of sadness, fear, and anxiety – I have to struggle to make room for comfort and healing.
I found this prayer – I think it is from a temple – Dear God: We ask Your blessings for our country — for its government, for its leaders and advisers, and for all who exercise just and rightful authority. Teach then insights from Your Word that they may administer all affairs of state fairly, that peace and security, happiness and prosperity, justice and freedom may forever abide in our midst.

Diane, you are not alone in your sadness, fear, and anxiety. Thank you for this prayer. I found MIT President Reif’s Letter to the MIT Community to be hopeful and comforting. I am proud to be associated with MIT. Take care.
